The Carriageworks, Millennium square, Leeds

Leeds Theatres Index

The Carriageworks is a newly developed Theatre complex built for local and regional theatrical artistes and companies. There are two Theatres and six rehearsal rooms incorporated into the first and second floors of the former 1848 Stansfield Chambers and Electric Press building on Millennium Square, Leeds.

This Grade II Listed building formerly housed the West Riding Carriage Manufactory, hence the new Theatre's name of the Carriageworks.

All the former tenants of the building were moved out in 1999 and the site was then redeveloped. The Carriageworks Theatre opened in November 2005 to coincide with the closure of the former Civic Theatre which was then converted into the City's new Museum. The main auditorium of the Carriageworks seats 349, whilst the smaller Studio Theatre seats 65.
