About the book and the artist
The
scans of the book on this page were kindly sent in by Bruce Wallace
who writes: 'As you can see, the Title Page and Contents are handwritten.
I have no idea who created the book but it appears to be done in an
amateurish manner although with great care. It may well have been
done by a student as a school project or as an assignment for an art
class. I have also included a scan of a page of notes about the artist
that was inside the cover. The drawings vary in size and orientation
including one page that has two small drawings mounted. The pages
are yellow with age and the cover is worn. I bought this at auction
approximately 25 years ago and it has sat on a shelf in my office
for all those years.' Bruce Wallace.
Right - Notes which were included in the book, and are transcribed below:

The information and images on this page were very kindly sent in for inclusion on this site by Bruce Wallace.
Since I put this book online I have been informed that it seems to be a copy from some of the images included in a work by Wilfred Whitten called 'A Londoner's London' first published in 1913, of which a digital copy can now be found at the Open Library here.
There are some wonderful photographs of Wych Street and the surrounding area's demolition from a souvenir brochure published by the London County Council for the opening of Kingsway in 1905 here and here.
