For it’s not a glaring vice;
You can only say ‘tis naughty,
Well, ‘tis naughty – but ‘tis nice.

The Era 7th August 1870. - New Music - Its Naughty, but its nice. Written and composed by Arthur Lloyd. D Alcorn, 351, Oxford street. Here we have the last published of Mr. Arthur Lloyd's genial songs. The one in question is possessed of a bright winning tune, while the words are quite fitted to the drawing-room.

Naught But Nice: Brewer's Dictionary of modern phrase and fable have an entry for 'Naught but nice'' in which various examples are given of its use, they go on to say that: 'the ultimate source is undoubtedly the fuller phrase found as the title song of 1873 by Arthur Lloyd. The words are sexually suggestive.' - Courtesy John Grice.
