The National Picture Theatre, in Beverly Road, Kingston Upon Hulll was built in 1914 and was bombed and mostly destroyed during the Second World War on the 17th of July 1941. The cinema was open at the time of the bombing but all 150 people escaped and there were no casualties. The interior of the building was completely destroyed but remarkably the facade survived and still survives to this day, including fragments of the Foyer and vestibule behind it. In 2007 the National Picture Theatre was awarded Grade II Listing for its importance as the only civilian building in Europe that was blitzed during the war and is still remaining in that same state today. A campaign to save the remains of the Theatre from proposed demolition is currently in full swing and information and images about the building and the campaign can be found here.
