The remains of the Hoxton Varieties in 1978 - Picture courtesy Peter Charlton.The Hoxton Varieties was built by C. J. Phipps in 1869 and opened on the 13th March 1870.

In its time it was also known as the Theatre of Varieties, Varieties Music Hall, Harwood's Music Hall, New Kings Theatre, Bromwich Theatre, and Mortimer's Theatre.

The original auditorium held 830 - 292 in the Pit, 220 in boxes, and 328 in the Grand Circle.
