Adelphi Theatre, Moor Street, Birmingham Formerly The Royal Grecian Amphitheater The Adelphi Theatre, on Birmingham's Moor Street, stood on the site of a former Circus building called the Royal Grecian Amphitheater which itself opened in 1857. The Adelphi Theatre which opened in May 1861 appears to have been a conversion from the former Circus building but this needs furthur investigation. Tom C. King, Arthur Lloyd's Father in law and father of Katty King, was booked to open the Adelphi Theatre with his other daughter, Bessie King, and they remained there until the middle of June. Amongst other pieces, they performed 'The Broken Sword' and 'The Taming of the Shrew'. They returned for a benefit performance in December of the same year. The Theatre had a very short life however and closed just three years after opening in 1864. Some of the above information was kindly supplied by Ted Bottle.
